A route that holds the landscape together.
The dyke has protected West Friesland as a continuous line since medieval times. Today it is a ribbon of bends, changing heights and broad views, punctuated by villages and old dyke houses.
The full ring is too long for one relaxed outing, so choose a theme: Kolhorn and villages, Schagen and market-town life, or Medemblik and the IJsselmeer. That keeps the journey enjoyable rather than an endurance test.

An easy-going plan
A taste of 150 kilometres of history.
You do not need to ride the whole Ring Dyke to understand it. A shorter loop around Kolhorn and Aartswoud reveals its height, bends and dyke houses.

Cycle from Marnic Hoeve and climb onto the historic dyke line in the village.

Ride a quiet stretch towards Aartswoud and pause where views open over old and new land.

Return through ribbon villages and polder lanes for lunch or coffee in Kolhorn.

Leave early or late for quieter roads and softer light on the dyke houses.
